2013 here we come! From what I can see, this year is going to be even bigger and better than last. The talent of this group so far is unbelievable and so exciting. While celebrating the New Year, you broke out the glitter and had a lot of fun. I could see it in your pictures! My tips for photographing glitter really seemed to help and I even picked up a thing or two by looking at your photographs.
In light of our new 52 Project for 2013, I wanted to switch up how we do our Best of the Week blog posts a bit. This year, I will be featuring the top 15 photographs of the week (in no particular order) and giving you my feedback to help fine tune your photography skills and develop your artistic talents even more!
Here we go!
1. Robin LaMond-Fairweather: I love the lighting in this photographing. The glitter on the ornament really picks up the side lighting. It really makes it sparkle!
2. Pamela Bennett: This needs to be a Christmas Card! The sparkle of the snow and the reflection in the ornament, I just love everything about this photograph.
3. Mary Covert-Mason: I love the pops of color in this photograph. The simple white background of the snow and the subject’s jacket help the red gloves and blue glitter pop!
4. Marilee Anderson: Again, the use of color in this photograph help make the ornaments stand out in the snow. Although the photo is a little underexposed, I would be cautious in brightening so that the detail on the red ornament doesn’t get lost.
5. Margaret Young: This is a great blowing glitter photograph! You really nailed capturing the glitter. I also like the lighting in this one. The side lighting reflected nicely off the glitter so that it didn’t just like specs on your photo.
6. Kathie Goobic: This is a gorgeous photograph! Even though I can figure out this is an ornament, I love the abstract feel of it.

7. Julie Richter: Where do I even start with this one? Can I just say I love everything? I didn’t think so. The colors in this one really work well each other. I love that your subject is bent over blowing the glitter as if making a wish!
8. Jan Sumner: This is such a fun photo! The girls really look they are enjoying themselves. Although, I enjoy the black and white, I am left wondering what it looks like in color.

9. Jacquelyn McMillen: This is a great glitter photograph! Again, a simple background {her white shirt} really helps make the glitter stand out. It looks like you used a lot of glitter and that really paid off!
10. Cheri Pittman: Amazing! The lighting in this photo is so evenly disturbed. Did you use studio lighting or a flash? The glitter really sparkles. I just wish you wouldn’t have cut her bottom lip off.
11. Carmen Carde: Nature’s glitter! I would have never thought to take a picture of frost or that it would sparkle like that. Great catch!
12. Buddy Broesky: Love the processing of this photo! Again, side lighting looks to be best for glitter photographs! The glitter really sparkles on her lips. One thing I try to avoid is the “up the nose” shots. Next time, I would try having her look straight at the camera or maybe even have her tilt her head to the side a little.
13. Ann Scott: When I was experimenting with my glitter, I found that gold glitter was my favorite. This one caught my eye! It’s interesting and abstract. The composition of the falling glitter is in the shape of an “S” which gives movement to your photograph.
14. Vivian Clibon: Love the perspective of this photograph! Way to switch it up! I also love the dark background so that your glitter stands out.
15. Tracey Miller: What a way to end 2012! Lots of sparkle in this picture. I love how you filled the frame with all of the ornaments. Also, the placement of the 2012 follows the rule of thirds.
There you have it! Our first challenge is in the books. If this week was any indication of what you are going to do this year, we are in for an amazing year!
Now that you’ve seen them, tell us which photograph is your favorite!

Thanks Stephanie! You are exactly right, I didn’t even know I cut her lip off, I was so focused on the glitter on her face. I appreciate you pointing that out to me! I try hard to remember to “leave the fat” like you taught us, but I didn’t leave enough on this. I think it is great that you are commenting on the ones you pick, it helps so much! I did use a flash, along with one umbrella light, pointing the flash from the camera into the umbrella, not directly on her face. This was a fun an interesting challenge! Looking forward to 2013!
Loved 3 and 14, mainly because I had so much trouble with the glitter shot and they nailed it. Amazed by all of them really!
LOVE #14!!
My favorite is 7. Very nicely done!!
Hi I like 7, 9 and 14 they were all great pics.
I loved #7 – the gold glitter with the red colours really made the photo “pop” and give it that extra creative edge. I also loved #9, the little girl is too cute blowing the glitter! All amazing photos – I’m so excited to take part in the project this year and hopefully get constructive feedback from you as well Stephanie!
