girl-taking-a-picture-the-365-project-how-it-worksWelcome!

And congrats! We’re thrilled you’re partaking in The 365 Project. Now, you’re probably wondering: What’s this all about? So here are some FAQs to get you started.

What is The 365 Project?

The 365 Project is a chance to document your year. One photo at a time.

How do I sign up?

Just RSVP. By RSVPing, we’ll be able to message you about prizes, special announcements and discounts on Picaboo products.

How did The 365 Project start?

The 365 Project was inspired by Brandon Scharr’s book. Every time we shared his book with friends, it inspired people. And we found, that as people flipped through his book, they saw everyday objects in a new light.

What if I miss a day?

Big whoop. That will happen. Just take two pictures the next day.

What if I run out of things to shoot?

We’re here to help. Each week, we’ll provide themes for you to photograph. Use those themes or shoot anything you want. It’s up to you. This is your project. There are no rules.

How will I become a better photographer?

We’ve enlisted the help of Stephanie Glover, Deborah Tripplet, Mike Carroll, Laura Hamilton and several other professional photographers to offer advice and inspiration. We’ll also provide opportunities for you to have your pictures critiqued by our team of pro photographers. Plus, we’ll provide advice, information and tips on lighting, angles, composition and equipment throughout the year. Our goal is to make you see things in a different way.

I’m a professional photographer and I’d like to get involved.

Awesome! We’re looking for professionals to share their pictures, advice and sit on a critique panel. Please leave a link to your website in the comments below.

But wait, 2012 is a Leap Year. Should this be the 366 Project?

Well, to be honest, we didn’t realize it was a Leap Year! But we actually slated the project to begin on 1/2/11 so that everyone had time to recover from their New Year’s festivities. So, it really is a 365 project!

This is a big committment.

Yes, it is. But it’s a commitment to become better. To be a better photographer and to look deeply into your life. At the end of the project, you’ll be surprised at some of the shots, themes and memories that you may have forgotten.

How can I win a camera or other Picaboo prizes?

Throughout the project, we’ll ask you to share your pictures. Sometimes we’ll give you an assignment or we’ll just ask you to share your favorite picture. All of that will come out along the way. But don’t worry, there will be plenty of chances to win prizes.

Do you have any tips to help me along the way.

We sure do! Take a look at these Get Started tips.

How do I start?

Make sure you RSVP here. On Monday, January 2nd, please post an image to our Facebook wall. This will let us know you’re in. If you’re not sure what you should photograph, we’ll provide a new theme every week. The first theme is listed below. Bookmark this page to find out future themes.

  1. Photography is about capturing the everyday in new light.

  2. Looking forward to participating! I’ve entered my personal blog address as I will be posting my daily images on a weekly basis!

  3. Are you asking for participants to shoot AND post every day or just shoot and post occasionally?

    • Hey Donna. The project entails you taking a picture every day for a year. Because the best way to become a photographer is to keep shooting. You can post your images on our Facebook page whenever you’d like. Glad you’re joining us.

  4. I am an amateur photographer and I found Project 365 to be really interesting. I started on the 26th of December. I figured it would be an awesome way to walk into the next year. I have always been a person to take pictures everywhere I go, so this will be fun!

  5. I asked this yesterday but my comment is gone. Are we supposed to shoot, process and post every day or just shoot and post occasionally?

    • Hey D. Thanks for joining us. The project entails you taking a picture every day for a year. Because the best way to become a photographer is to keep shooting. You can post your images on our Facebook page whenever you’d like.

  6. I’m in! Thanks for the opportunity.

  7. Will we be notified by email of the themes or do we have to look on facebook or the Picaboo website? Also, same question as above, do we have to post everyday?

    • Hey Sherry! All themes will be announced here, on The Picablog. We will provide links to the blog post via all of our social networks. You can post your images on our Facebook page whenever you’d like. For some, this is daily. For others, this is weekly. It’s up to you.

  8. Sounds Like Fun! I’m Inn!!

  9. That great idea! Apart from other stuff I will photograph my new cat everyday (shes 4 months old)

That gonna be fun :) Ill take approach of capturing changes. Even small. Here and there.

Lets see….what else will change so much to be a good material for this project…

  10. Hi,
I am a little confused about the challenge. The only things I seem to find are the bokeh technique for Day 1 and the “keep shooting” theme. Others on FB are commenting on doing some lighting shots and I don’t know where to get the details on that.
    Thanks.

  11. hi i just saw the ad on 365 project here… whats the theme for this week? i’d like to catch up! thank u…. =)

  12. Hi there! I would like to know if there is going to be ANY cost/expense on my part once I get involved in this group’s project or at the end of it. I am disabled and on a very small fixed income and would become very disappointed if, as we move forward I have to come up with money I don’t have to successfully fulfill my duties as a member of this group. I already am in much pain and suffering as it is to add another item to feel sorry about.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the chance of adding this positive activity into my life showing the reality of what is and not what I and others would like my life to be.

Thank you in advance for understanding my plead for knowing up front your intention of charging any fees.

    Respectfully, Eileen

    • Thank you for your note, Lourdes. There is no charge or unexpected cost to taking part in The 365 Project.

  13. I just today saw this and would love to join. I hope I understand what all is involved. I take a picture everyday and then post it. Correct? I am not sure how I post it so please give me directions on that.

  14. Why do we have to submit on FB? I deleted mine (the above one is my mom’s) and am not going back to it but I want to participate. Is there any other way to get into the 365 Project?

  15. I think I just joined and would love to (I hit RSVP), but I’m not sure where I go from here. Do we “friend” you on Facebook? How do we separate these pictures from our regular FB albums?

More instructions, please. Or maybe I just need to do some searching.

  16. quick question…just to get this straight, we are storing our pictures in our own selected way, correct?!? or do we have to store on FlickR or one of the ones suggested? I just wanted to make sure that we didn’t need to store it in a certain way so that the photos are available to be viewed publicly. I suppose this project is much more for individual fulfillment, then?!? Sounds like so much fun…I am enrolled in a photography class at the adult school from my local Univ. so I’m SUPER excited to practice with this project~ I would LOVE as many suggestions also, on how to improve my skills…is there a specific way we can get advice, like should we email our pics to someone?!? thanks again!!!

  17. Is it too late to join the fun and maybe have a 284 Project?
