We did it again! There’s a new Picaboo software update available today with some sweet new features. Just close Picaboo X and restart to get the free update. Here’s what you’ll see:

1. “Fade” Photo Tool: You’ve taken the perfect photo that you want to use as a background on your book page, collage poster, canvas, etc, but the colors are so vibrant that they’re taking away from your other photos.  No problemo! Select the photo or background by single-clicking it. Then, in Photo Tools (located in the sidebar), move the “Fade” slider to your desired translucency.  Sweet!

2. “Apply To All” for Backgrounds: By popular demand….now you can take the perfect background you have and apply it to all of the pages of your book! Just select the background by single-clicking on it. Then, click “Edit” in the top menu options and select “Use Background For All Pages”. Voila!

3. Variable Border Thickness: We know you’ll LOVE this one: now you can adjust the width of the borders around your pictures! No matter what color you’ve decided to make your borders, just select a photo and in “Photo Tools” in the sidebar, scroll down until you see the Border tools and move the slider bar to the right to make the borders thicker, and to the left to make them thinner.  Then, if you wish, you can apply that border width to all of the photos in your project.

4. Some Minor Updates, Features & Bug Fixes:

  • You can now create/save a copy of a project from “Home” in Picaboo X. This is helpful if you want to create a slightly different version of a project you’ve already created.
  • Various “Sync” bugs fixed. Thanks for helping us find them :)
  • Various caption bugs fixed. They were bugging us too!

So, tell us what we’re missing. We’ll review all of your comments here and work them into our upcoming releases. No other suggestions? Tell us what your favorites are and maybe we’ll surprise you with some more magical features.

Enjoy!

  1. When do you have a half price, free shipping special coming for scrapbooks? I am waiting.

  2. I would love to have the ability to save and reuse a custom layout! I almost always end up adjusting the layouts to suit my pictures and it would be so nice to be able to save those changes and be able to use “my” layouts many times without the work of adjusting them each time!

  3. It would be fun to be able to copy individual pages from a book into another book, a card, a canvas, etc. I’m also looking forward to an embellishment database(s) similar to the incredible backgrounds one. Oh, and I’d love the ability to flip layouts and backgrounds – the mirror effect for facing pages. And shapes! Can we pretty please get some circles and hearts for the picture wells?

I started using picaboo just before the very first update. That update contained so much new and improved content that I knew I was in for a treat if I stuck around, and I am constantly amazed by all the wonderful updates and additions. My favorite tool is probably the eye-dropper. I use it on pretty much every page.

  4. Would love some embellishments and round/oval picture wells. Also maybe some other fancy type fonts. I know you can do this using other programs but Picaboo is SO easy and awesome it would be great to have it all in one spot!!! I LOVE PICABOO.

  5. When oh when will picaboo introduce photos that can be dragged and be placed on both pages? I’m not talking about photo that is fully spanned across two pages (this feature is already available). I’m referring to small photos that can be dragged left and right and center (partially across both pages).

I am able to workaround by dragging the same photo on both left and right and then working the positioning to make it look seamless.

  6. I would also love to be able to save a custom layout for future use. When making a large album I have 5+ photos on almost every page. The premade layouts are pretty limited for this amount of photos so I make alot of my own layouts. I would REALLY love to be able to use them again without recreating them. I would also love the ability to put a border on my caption boxes. I would also love the ability to crop a photo without just zooming and clicking the arrows to move it. The way it works now is very tedious and time consuming for me.

I LOVE the eydropper tool. I also love how custom I can make my pages. The background options are also fabulous. Thanks!

  7. As with the previous post, I would love an embellishment database like the backgrounds. Also photo frames in other shapes and fades or irregular egdes.
How about double and triple borders on pictures so the look more like picture frame matting.
And if we can fade background could you wonder developers find a way to add a transparent texture (watermark) over a background, such as linen, sand, stone finish, moire. If it could be a separate button you could add a texture over a custom color or photo.
Most of all I LOVE how adaptive Picaboo software is and the every one the staff works so hard on updates to add new features we would like to see! Great work Picabook team.

  8. I love Picaboo, so thank you!

    A few suggestions:
    1. Being able to copy and reuse a page, or as a few others said maybe a “My Layouts”. But even just the ability to copy one I already did.
    2. Be able to select and move multiple items. Sometimes I create a great section with captions and photos and they overlap, and then I want to move them all down an inch… and I have to do it one at a time.
    3. I’d like an “Always show in dock” option. I like that used photos don’t show up, but if I create embelishments, I want them to always show in the dock
    4. Add custom fonts. I have a font on my computer I’d love to use in Picaboo.

    Thanks again!!

  9. 1. I really want to be able to save layouts to reuse throughout the book and even from book to book.
    2. It would also be great to be able to put pictures intended for backgrounds into a special spot so that they remain visible while the other pictures already used in the book are hidden.
    3. Please fix the bug that causes random items to be deleted when hitting the delete key. I would like to be able to remove one of the photo holders from a layout without first putting an image in it.

  10. I just made my first book with Picaboo. I Love all of the options!! Some suggestions to keep your developers employed :)
    1. I agree with many of the posts re: saving custom layouts although it was not too hard to adapt.
    2. More importantly for me would be the ability to crop without having to zoom.
    3. And just as important–embellishments!
    4. I also found it hard to readjust a photo I had used as a background. I couldn’t get the handle dots to come up unless I removed it, added it as a regular photo and then reset it as a background photo.
    5. Be able to bring up the yellow cropping warning border at will. I had to change pages and go back to the one I wanted it on or move my photos too close and then reposition them again. And if you don’t do a lay flat book there is more of an area towards the spine that is not as visable although it still prints and you can see it if you purposely try to open it more flat. It would be nice to take that into account. I know it would vary on the number of pages, but a general guestimate would be nice.
    6. Move multiple items as Kelly mentioned.
    7. Be able to use the eyedropper on the backgrounds selected from your inventory. For instance, I liked the stamped envelope Airmail backdrop but would have liked it and used it more if I could have changed the neutral background color of it to a light blue.
I know this sounds like a laundry list so I want you to know that I really love this site. I especially like the ability to adjust brightness, contrast and saturation!! I’ve used 3 other companies before and this one is the best in my book! Also love the blog site which I just discovered today!

  11. Love the border thickness tool. Just used it on my book last night. What a difference it makes. Would love to do embelleshments too. I am making my own right now. Is that something you would be interested in along with backgrounds?
