Why do we love this book?

This book follows Joshua as he transforms from a new player on the Cougar Baseball team to a confident and skilled member of the group. Through captions and action photography, Connie recounts important games, fun events and shows us how Joshua moved from center field to second base. In no time, we witness the new kid became an aggressive and talented player.

How was this book designed?

We love the simple look of a black background and a picture framed with a white border. This clean layout allows us to focus on the game and proves that sometimes, the best technique is the story.

What makes this book so special?

We love how this book begins with a sweet, timid-faced kid and ends with an aggressive, base-stealing ball player. After a teammate breaks his wrist, Joshua moves from the outfield to the infield, giving him more chances at bat and more confidence on the field. And there’s nothing better than witnessing a kid succeed. This may not be the Bad News Bears but you’ll feel a sense of victory watching the new kid becomes a vital member of the Cougars Baseball Team.

Here’s what Connie had to say about her book:

Are you ready for some baseball?? My son, Joshua, received this book for his 11th birthday and it made him cry. This was his first year to tryout for the Cougar Travel baseball team and he made it. To say he loves baseball is not enough. He was the only kid to make the team from his school–news not easily taken by his friends and an early lesson on life. Baseball is his passion and it drives him to be the best he can be. Pretty tall words for a little man who is only 10 years old. Our season starts with an ice-breaker BBQ and a nervous 10-year-old that doesn’t know a soul on the team. Joshua was the “new kid” and through the season (page by page) he transformed into a confident and strong team player. I tried to capture this on the front and back covers. Our Picaboo book is not just a book full of pictures but  a priceless keepsake that demonstrates how much Joshua’s confidence and self-esteem grew. He is an amazing young man and his love for baseball absolutely pushes him forward. As his mother, I couldn’t be more proud of Joshua. How many boys do you know (age 11 at their birthday party) cry as they look through their Picaboo baseball book? I’m glad he had tears because it is a special memory in my heart.
